The Widow's Den

Exploring

Explore the Widow's Den using the WASD keys to move around.

Events

Certain events you come across will prompt you for choices. Use WASD to move the cursor and Return to choose. Or click your choice.

Combat

Encountering creatures in the dungeon will begin combat. Select one of your items by clicking it to attack. Each item has an attack type (in parentheses) and a cost type. Every enemy has one weakness stat that will instantly kill it, and otherwise takes three hits. Using an item lowers one of your stats by whatever its cost is.

Bear in mind that Bloody items will cost you two points in their stat, but restore one point in another stat.

Advice

• If any of your stats reach zero, you will die.
• The maximum value of a stat is eight.
• Look for trapdoors to descend through the dungeon.
• Press the [ and ] (square bracket) keys to change the palette.
  • There are 24 - many of which are color-picked from real spiders!
• Press Space or Return to set a marker on the ground.
• Each stat has a secondary effect:
  • Effervescence: is sacrificed to prevent other stats reaching zero.
  • Contemplation: prevents you from being lost.
  • Reverberation: increases items found.
  • Enlightenment: increases the count of positive events.
  • Companionship: decreases the enemy count.
  • Transgression: can protect you from enemy damage.
  • Metamorphosis: can protect you from event damage.
  • Inevitability: increases the number of trapdoors.

The Widow

• She will appear in each floor after the eighth.
• She cannot be hurt the same way twice.
• Run if you have to.
